This charming box was sourced in Japan during one of our recent visits. 

The intricate pattern is achieved through a process called “Tanegi” - where a block of wood is created by precisely assembling pieces of wood with varied tones and grains. Through these steps a geometric pattern is formed and the final product is shaped from the larger assembly. In this instance, the pattern is carried throughout the final object and adorns the lid, interior compartment and bottom piece.
